Multiplier sport event – Portugal

On the 13 December 2022, ARCIL organized, in partnership with the University of Coimbra, the
multiplier event about the ERASMUS+ project INSIDE, on the topic of inclusion of persons with
intellectual disability through sports and physical activity.
The event was co-organized with the Faculty of Sciences of Sports and Physical Education of the
University of Coimbra (https://www.uc.pt/fcdef), aiming at disseminating the project and creating
awareness of Higher Education students in the field of Sports and Physical Education about the
inclusive role of sports and the importance of physical activity for persons with disability.
The event was disseminated via e-mail and using ARCIL’s social media, with an invitation and
program, as presented below. Dissemiantion was also done by the University of Coimbra, reaching
students from the degree in Physical Education and Sports.

A group of 5 presenters/lecturers were responsible for the facilitation of the workshops, namely:
– Alcindo Quaresma (Physical Education Teacher – ARCIL);
– João Canossa Dias (Director of Rehabilitation and Inclusion Services – ARCIL)
– Maria João Campos (Faculty Member on the topics of Inclusive and Adapted Physical Education
and Sports – University of Coimbra)
– Marta Melo (Psychomotor Therapist – ARCIL);
– Ricardo Simões (Sports and Social Animation Youth Worker – ARCIL).
The schedule of the event was, as following:
i) Presentation of the ERASMUS+ INSIDE project;
ii) Diversity and Inclusion – practical activity;
iii) In between Adapted and Inclusive Sports – A Spectrum of possibilities;
iv) Approaches to promote inclusive sports – the T.R.E.E. approach;
v) Easy to Read Sports’ Manuals;
vi) Questions & Comments.
During the presentations, Professor Maria João Campos was also able to present the C.R.I.E.
approach, an adaptation of the T.R.E.E. approach intro de Portuguese language, and to share a booklet
about the application of this methodology with persons with different disabilities.
The event counted with the participation of 50 participants, that were very actively engaged in the
dynamics that were prepared to explore the diverse topics. The postive reaction of the participants
allowed to understand that the event was successful and new plans with this partner – with Master
students – will be made for 2023.

After the event, the powerpoint presentation, the capacity building manual (IO1) and the Easy-
to-Read manuals were shared with the audience, as well as a certificate of attendance.
